Growing a maple from seed is the slowest possible way to get a bonsai. That is also the appeal.

The steps

1. Collect the seeds in autumn.
2. Cold-stratify them in the fridge for 90 days.
3. Sow in spring, in a free-draining mix.
4. Wait. Then wait a bit more.
