Notes on writing in a second language
Why most of this blog is in English, and why some of it isn’t.
I think in Portuguese and mostly write code in English. This blog sits somewhere in between.
Writing in English forces me to be simpler. I have fewer clever words, so I use the plain ones. That turns out to be good for technical writing.
Write the post you would have wanted to find when you were stuck.
So the rule is
- Technical posts: English, so they are useful to more people.
- Personal and local things: whatever language they happened in.
- Every post declares its language, so screen readers don’t mangle it.
